Course

At the completion of the training course, participants should be able to:
- Understand the basic properties of RF EME and the difference between RF EME and      non-ionising radiation
- Understand how RF is absorbed in the body and the potential health effects of high exposure to RF EME
- Identify the applicable standard for safe exposure to RF EME and explain to whom and how it is applied
- Know where information on company RF EME safety policies may be obtained and in particular the roles and responsibilities in the company for managing and ensuring RF safety
- Understand key EME safety practices and how these are applied at specific radio communications facilities
- Identify the types of facilities that may be present at a radio communications site and the potential hazards associated with these facilities
- Explain the selection and use of appropriate RF EME personal protection equipment (PPE)
- Have a working knowledge of the use of the RF site safety information database available for the mobile telecommunications industry
Why is awareness important?
RF awareness is a growing need in the telecommunications industry due to the increase in mobile phone towers, telecommunication and satellite dishes. Industry technicians and tower workers need to ensure they are familiar with RF Electromagnetic Radiation Awareness Hazards.
Who is this course for?
The RF Electromagnetic Radiation Awareness (RADHAZ) course is primarily targeting telecommunication industry employees. However, any employee that may encounter Radio Frequency exposure in the workplace will benefit from this course.
This course meets the requirements of the ARPANSA RPS3 RF Radiation Protection Standard with regard to the training and provision of information to RF workers who may be exposed up to the occupational limits of the ARPANSA standard.
In addition, to enable the safe work practices of independent contractors and building maintenance and operations staff who may work near radio communications facilities located on buildings or other infrastructure, but whose duties do not relate directly to such facilities, this course will provide information and basic safe work practices for those workers.
